Tyres / Wheels

Tyre and wheel pollution in Bogotá is one of the main sources of air pollution in Colombia. This is attributed by the resuspension of road dust as well as the emission of particulate matter (PM2.5) generated by tyre wear. On-road traffic is the main contributor of PM10 and PM2.5 emissions. On-road traffic is a major air pollution source. Although the main sources of air pollutants appear to emanate from vehicle exhaust emissions, tyre wear, brakes, and road dust have significant levels of contribution as sources of air pollutants. Another concern is the used tyres.. A 2015 report estimated that millions of used tyres required proper disposal or recycling, highlighting an issue with tyres being left in streets or stored improperly, leading to fire risks. But the disposed tyres do not come only from vehicules on the road, a big percentage of these disposed tyres are from the Trans Mi Cable.
